Molly is a Faker

6a00d83451dd1e69e200e54f39edb08833-800wiMolly had her second obedience class tonight. I guess the verdict is not a surprise: she is very smart, but very willful.

Anyone who has met Molly knows that she, um, isn’t the best dog in Carversville and anyone who has met her is probably relieved to hear she’s going to obedience training.

The good news is: she knows how to sit, stay, come when called, walk on leash without pulling & sit quietly by a chair. We’ve only practiced about 20 minutes a day.

The bad news is: she only does it when she wants to.

Apparently, she only wants to behave DURING obedience class.  Molly is the demo dog!

Let me repeat that for all the Molly detractors out there:  Molly is the demo dog. The instructor uses Molly to show the other dogs how to do the various behaviours.

There are four other dogs in her class and they are all snooting around at each other and pulling on their leads and generally being doggy.  Molly doesn’t do any of that. She is a model dog. The instructor and others in the class say things like, “I can’t believe she’s a Jack Russell. They’re usually so hyper, but Molly is so good.”

We got home from class at about 7:30. In the three hours since then, she has pretty much been as bad as possible–nipping at Owen, snarfing food off the table, barking at trucks, picking up magazines and ripping the paper.  So her success in class is not translating into better behaviour at home.  I guess we’ll have to keep working at it.

Suggestions anyone?
