Owen & Jack competed in a Takedown Tournament on Thursday. Instead of wrestling a full three periods, each period ended at the takedown or at one minute. The wrestler achieving the takedown scored one point. The tournament was a round robin, so each boy had three or four matches, depending on how many were in his weight class/age group.
This was Owen’s first tournament ever and he did great, especially in his first match when he got two points out of three. He was very aggressive in that match and showed a lot of promise.
Jack had a tough bracket …. he’s learning what it’s like to face open competition instead of novice. Plus he’s just a seven years old and a few months and some of his competitors are almost nine. However, after a rough start, he rallied admirably and had two excellent final matches.
Unfortunately, Jack has always come on strong at the end of a match … he often comes from behind to pin his opponent in the third period, so this tournament didn’t suit his strengths very well, but showed him where he needs to do some work.
