Coaches Award

Wrestling season is finally over, and this was the awards banquet where Jack won a big award!! Journaling reads:

12 March 2006
Before he named the winners, Coach Jason Stout explained what the award was about. He said that: “The coach’s award is given to the varsity wrestler who brings something extra to the room every night.  He may not be the best wrestler on the team, but he gives his best at every practice and in every match.  That extra effort helps both himself and his teammates improve.”

Jack was stunned to hear his name called as the Silver Team winner. His team is made up of boys from 1st to 6th grade, so he wasn’t expecting to get anything special his first year. His face was frozen in surprise the entire way up to the dais and all the way back to his seat where Owen hugged him so hard that he almost dropped his trophy.

Jack is so proud of himself — he says he got the second best award handed out. He says the best one to receive is the Raiders award, which is voted on by the wrestlers themselves, not the coaches.

I’m sure that someday Jack will win one of the technical awards, like most wins or most takedowns, but I don’t think we’ll every be any prouder of him than we are for this award, which is based on character, not skill.
