Jack, after striking out the last batter to get out of the inning. This is about the most emotion I’ve even see Jack show during a game.

The Mets had a FANTASTIC game last night against Lambertville. EVERYONE contributed. It was so much fun to watch. Jack’s highlights included six RBIs from a triple and an inside-the-park homeroom (thanks to Jack’s super-aggressive base running.)

He also pitched the last two innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out six. (You’ll see in the photos, he’s developed this wacky pitching style where he curtsies, or pliés, before each pitch. But it worked for him last night.)

More photos are here.

Here’s what coach had to say after the game (I would add that none of this would have been possible without the superior coaching from Coaches Mangan, Miller & Czupich):

Great game tonight. It is awesome to see all the boys contributing. Henry lining the ball all over the field. Jack, Julian and David mashing triples and HRs. Ryan Miller going 3 for 3. Joshua being a great lead off player getting on base and scoring 3 times. Michael R. also was on base all 3 times while Aidan pulled a Roy Hobbs to come off the DL to stroke 2 hits driving in some key runs.

And how about our pitchers ! Julian started things off great and Jack closed it out with 6 Ks and only 1 hit and 1 BB allowed. In between, we got 2 minor league debuts- Great 3rd inning by Sam with an impressive 2 Ks and only 1 run allowed. Ryan Keating also made his debut and not only pitched well but made a great defensive play on the mound. Colin also pitched very well with command and confidence on top of his great defense at first and a good night at bat. To think what we could have done if our other big hitter, Ben,  had been there tonight.

Most importantly, the boys are playing as a team and exhibiting good sportsmanship. In the 1st inning, Sachin was supposed to start but Colin needed a glove to play 1st base and Sachin gave him his glove and willingly sat out an inning for his teammate. Thank you for letting us coach your boys this year. They have done extremely well and are playing well as a team and having fun. We have used 8 pitchers this year and 7 catchers. It is great to see the boys all experience different positions and learn a lot.

Bring on the playoffs!!!!

  1. Mangan Mets! The Mangan Mets are starting to peak for the end of the season. Jack pitched three innings on Saturday and only allowed one hit (a big difference from his first pitching performance of the season!). His teammates are making major contributions as well. 2. Catcher Jack made a great tag at the plate to get the out and protect his team’s lead. He also pitched an inning and did a good job at first base.  ( Sorry about the poor photo, it was almost 8 PM and getting very dark and I really had to push the camera.)...
  3. Sportsmanship is still worth more than wins I didn’t hear about my favorite moment from the weekend until last night. Kevin and I were talking about Jack’s game (I missed the beginning because I was at the fencing tournament with Owen.) Kevin mentioned that — uncharacteristically — Jack had TWO errors in one inning when he was playing at third. No big [...]...
  4. DadDad’s captions for Owen’s baseball photos For years, DadDad has been writing captions for photos that I send him or post. The captions are hysterically funny and I realized I should be sharing them here. So here’s is the latest installment, based on Owen’s recent opening day baseball game. OWEN: “Now this is downright stupid on somebody’s part! I am a [...]...
