Sports Weekend

Yesterday, we had two football games (one in the rain) and one soccer game. Today we have one more soccer game.

Owen has been playing his heart out in football. He’s a “pulling everything”…. when he plays center he pulls and blocks, when he plays quarterback, he pulls and blocks…and so on … I think he even runs out and blocks when he’s the kicker. Mostly, he just likes to block and tackle (although the tackle part has caused some problems, as he’s playing FLAG football. That will all be resolved next year when he plays tackle.)

Soccer has a been a bit of a letdown, as I think most of the best athletes in first and second grade might be playing football and the overall level of play on the soccer field is pretty low and not very challenging to Owen. He often faces his stiffest competition protecting the ball from his own teammates.

Next year, if he plays travel soccer, I think he’ll enjoy it a bit more. He gets quite frustrated with his teammates when he standing open in front of the goal and they’re all clumped around trying to steal the ball from each other and not passing.

Jack had an outstanding game of football…I’m sure I’m forgetting some highlight, but he had a number of tackles in the backfield, prevented a two-point conversion, made a safety (his first points scored as NHS Lion!!) and most importantly he was a great teammate and a real leader on the field. As you can see from the various photos, Fiona just mostly gets into trouble, does some occasional cheering for her brothers and prowls around to get snacks from anyone and everyone.

The photo album is here; I’ll add Jack’s soccer photos from today later. (Note: click on any image in the photo album for a larger version and in the football photos, Jack is #4 and has the red shoelace covers on his shoes.)
