Jack played on Solebury’s U10 Little League team this summer. It seems the team set a Solebury record of winning more games in the tournament than any other Solebury team ever has.
They won four straight (as part of an eight-game winning streak), before losing their last two to get knocked out of the tournament.
It was a great team effort, with lots of hitting and great plays in the field. Each game was exciting in its own way. They started off the tournament with an almost-three-hour, tw0-extra-inning, 15-14 win!
Jack moved up to bat sixth and anchored the outfield at center.
I was really proud of Jack. Over the two weeks of the tournament, on most of the days, he’d spend a full day in full football gear at camp before we jumped in the car and sped to the game to get there just in time for the opening pitch.By the end of the first week, he was pretty exhausted, but still managed to do his trademarked “mini-hits” as well as hitting a few long ones well past the infield.
Fiona got into the spirit by wearing her special dancing dresses in order to help cheer the team on.
The team has a great depth of talent — with a little work, I think nine out of the 11 players could pitch next year. In addition to being athletically gifted, they’re all pretty great kids. If they decide they want to enter the Little League tournament next year, I completely expect them to advance to the next round. I think the team learned a lot about what to expect in the tournament and will be better prepared next year.
Some photos are here from the six Little League games (unfortunately, many of the games were at night, so the lighting was poor).
