_MG_9286For most of the game, the NHS Lions dominated. Although they were having difficulty scoring, they controlled the ball really well on offense and their defense was almost impenetrable.

But like so many games, it can all hinge (or unhinge) on just one play — and unfortunately this week, that pivotal play didn’t help the Lions. The Lenape Valley Indians managed to convert after a touchdown and edged past the Lions 7-6.

The players are definitely improving and I feel bad for them that the score  this week doesn’t necessarily reflect that. But each week, their skills are becoming more sophisticated and they are playing better and better.

Jack had a bittersweet moment after the game.  He was standing around in just his pads and the Lenape Valley coach came up to him and asked if he was Jack McKenna. Jack said “yes” and the coach told him that they had built their game plan around making sure he didn’t run away with the ball.

Afterward, Jack said that he knew that it was a compliment, but he wasn’t sure if he should say “thank you” because their game plan worked.

(Jack is #24 in the photo above, scoring a touchdown. Notice how easily he is “walking” into the end zone, thanks to the super-strong offensive line.)

More photos from the game are here.
