Weblog Introduction

I’ve been debating doing a blog for a couple of months.  On one hand, why do I want a bunch of potential random people to know what’s going on at our house? On the other hand, whether it’s in a weblog or a spiral notebook, it’s probably a good idea to keep some sort of journal.

I really don’t think a bunch of random people will be involved in this. Although I’m hoping that whoever reads it will be inspired at some point to comment, most of the people who will be reading it will already have a connection with us. I’m not so good at keeping family/friends up-to-date, so this way, the burden is on THEM to check in with here to find out what’s going on. (that’s assuming I keep it up-to-date and interesting!)

As far as the journaling, it’s nice to have little day-to-day details written down somewhere, especially when it comes to journaling for my scrapbook pages.

I’ve let a couple people preview the set-up and they say I need to explain the cookbook theme.  It’s not so complicated. I love to cook, I collect cookbooks.  Life, it seems to me, is a little bit like a well cooked meal: a variety of ingredients come together to make a satisfying whole.

Life also could use some “recipes”, whether those take the form of a daily to-do list, a personal collection of short- and long-term goals, or some sort of moral/ethical/religious framework.  All those kind of things work together to give life some structure, and a little bit of this and a little bit of that work together to make a complete experience.

Life (as well as a well cooked meal) also needs a dash of alchemy — something unexplainable that adds magic to something ordinary.

So, here is my “cookbook” — the “recipes,” the results and the reactions.

I haven’t looked at all places on this new site, but I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve visited, especially Owen playing T-Ball.
