Jack is having a busy week. From 9 AM to 3 PM, he has wrestling camp at Del Val College; from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM he has football camp in Doylestown.
You’d think he welcome a chance for a little rest? No.
Yesterday, after I picked him up from wrestling camp, we were talking about his day. He said that after lunch, the kids have a chance to go into the (air conditioned!!) student lounge for a bit to watch videos and relax.
Sounds good? Not for Jack.
Now, remember that it’s 94 degrees outside and about six million percent humidity. He’s been inside a gym all morning wrestling along with about 100 other boys.
What does Jack do?
He goes OUTSIDE (OUTSIDE? OUTSIDE??!!) at noontime (NOONTIME? NOONTIME??!!) to play basketball with the other boys. (He said they were playing shirts and skins. His team was skins. I’ll bet that was a sight.)
. . . And to think that some people believe WE are the ones pushing Jack into sports.
Look at his face in those photos … does he look like he’s being forced to do something he doesn’t like? He’s about to wrestling a fifth grader and he’s smiling? (BTW, he won that match.) He’s running (?crawling) football drills for three hours a day, and he’s smiling. Instead of watching cartoons, he and nine other little nutcases (or “nutcakes” as Jack says) (out of 125+ kids) go outside in the oven-like heat to play MORE sports. Now, and you starting to understand about Jack and sports???!!!??
(NOTE: I included a gratuitous photo of Molly to remind everyone how beautiful she is. She went along to football camp last night, and she was a VERY GOOD GIRL. No barking whatsoever, and she was very polite to the little kids who wanted to pet her — she snooted them and kissed them all over and they loved it.)
